Day Two

Hello everyone - I'm back!

The internet at the hotel has been on & off for some reason. But today I sprang out of bed at 6am and with my cup of very strong China Coffee, I'm ready to get you all caught up on what we have been up to.

DAY TWO:

Today our first stop was Tiananmen Square, the huge gigantic outdoor plaza where on October 1, 1949 Chairman of the Communist party Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China from the balcony of Tiananmen Gate.

During the 1960's the Square was quadrupled in size so it could hold over 1 million people. In the center of the Square stands the Monument to the People's Heroes, an obelisk built in 1958 - this is where students gathered during the 1989 uprising. The size of this Square defies description.
